Where is Midsomer Murders filmed?
Midsomer is fictional, but the villages and streets that bring it to life are real. Most filming locations lie across Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, with a smaller group in Hertfordshire. Wallingford, Thame, Warborough, Dorchester-on-Thames and Henley-on-Thames are among the best-known town and village settings. Copenhagen appears separately as the setting for the series’ overseas case.
Each place has its own character. Wallingford’s Corn Exchange, riverside and civic streets have repeatedly stood in for Causton. Thame’s town hall, museum, shops and nearby estates have supplied a wide range of settings. Little Missenden’s village streets, church, manor and Red Lion make a rewarding cluster to explore. Henley-on-Thames brings a river, bridge and town hall to the screen, while Warborough’s green, cottages and pub form a familiar village backdrop.
There is plenty to discover beyond the larger towns. Old Amersham’s historic streets, Turville’s green and windmill, Bledlow’s church and village hall, Hambleden’s mill and village streets, and the pubs, churches and halls of Long Crendon, Little Marlow, Littlewick Green and Nettlebed each offer a different countryside visit.
Use the map and county lists to choose a manageable cluster, then allow time to walk between nearby streets and landmarks. Episodes often combine several real places, and one building may be dressed as different fictional locations. A linked-case count is a useful guide to how often a town appears, but it does not mean every scene in those episodes was filmed there.
If you are choosing a first stop, these five towns have the most linked cases:
- Beaconsfield — 24 linked cases
- Thame — 18 linked cases
- Little Missenden — 16 linked cases
- Bledlow — 15 linked cases
- Henley-on-Thames — 14 linked cases
For a relaxed day out, the visit planner suggests a loop through Wallingford, Warborough and Dorchester-on-Thames. Read the filming locations guide for more ideas, and check travel, access and opening details before setting off.
Some filming locations are private homes or active businesses. Please stay on public roads and paths, do not enter private property, and avoid blocking driveways or narrow village lanes.
Locations by episode
Verified buildings and broader filming places from the existing Casebook records. A town link is a filming-area reference, not proof that every scene was filmed there. Where a place has no individual page, its link opens the episode’s filming evidence.
