Charlie Finleyson is found dead in woodland, drawing attention to his connection with Christine Sandys, former wife of Midsomer Life proprietor Guy Sandys. The magazine's campaigns and Guy's quarrel with the Morecroft Hotel have made private hostility into public copy.
When Guy is killed at his office and another victim dies at the hotel, Barnaby and Jones examine the commercial feud, tangled relationships and a village habit of sorting residents into insiders and intruders. The publication records that division even as it helps inflame it.
