Whiteoaks member Alistair Kingslake is found bludgeoned beside the thirteenth hole, known as Crisp's Folly. The club's polished manners soon give way to accounts of illegal lending, gambling, extortion and contempt between members and staff.
A second member is stabbed in woodland near the course, forcing Barnaby and Jones to map personal grudges onto the club's geography. The decisive clue comes from golf itself rather than from the status its players are so eager to display.
