Dexter Lockwood's body is discovered in the famous Plummer & Son relish factory after he joined a public tour. The family initially treats him as an anonymous visitor, but Barnaby and Scott establish that Dexter was known to the Plummers and had arrived with a purpose.
Legal documents, disputed inheritance and reported sightings place the factory's past beside its uncertain future. The celebrated recipe matters commercially, yet the harder secret concerns what happened inside the family long before the tour machinery started.
