Turville lies in the folded chalk landscape of the Hambleden Valley, where wooded slopes rise sharply behind a small green. Its cottages, St Mary the Virgin Church and hillside windmill create one of the Chilterns' most recognisable village views, used by many productions besides Midsomer Murders.
The village is tiny, and much of its charm comes from that scale. A considerate visit is best built around public footpaths, the church and views from the surrounding hills rather than a long circuit by car. Narrow lanes and limited parking are part of the reality that the camera politely leaves out.
