Nell FryerNell poisoned Samantha Berry when Samantha pursued the truth about the fatal Grange fire, then killed Ronin Chow after he recognised her and was about to identify her. Kitty Oswood had accidentally started the earlier fire and Johnny Fullerton falsely took responsibility for it; Doug Vaughan's harassment, blackmail and firearm offence are separate.
Verified motive
Nell framed her actions as protecting her sister Kitty. She feared Samantha would reveal that Kitty caused the Grange fire, that Johnny had died and that Nell had kept Johnny's attempted return secret, which she believed would trigger another breakdown; she poisoned Samantha to suppress that truth and killed Ronin when he recognised her and was about to identify her.
