Midsomer Worthy's choir is preparing for the Four Choirs Competition when member Connor Simpson is found dead at home. Joyce sings with the group, giving Barnaby access to its rivalries while also making the threat feel unusually close to his family.
A birdwatcher and estate keeper are killed as the inquiry moves through churchyard sightings, conductor competition and a possible art fraud. Music links the victims socially, but the financial scheme explains why somebody needs their shared observations silenced.
