Villagers clash over a proposed supermarket, and environmental inspector Frank Hopkirk is stabbed at the timber yard earmarked for development. He had been investigating possible contamination while also arranging secret fantasy encounters with several local women.
Barnaby and Jones must keep the environmental evidence separate from the private business that makes almost every household anxious about disclosure. The land, the village shop and the covert service each create different financial stakes in the same decision.
