Fingest is a tiny Chiltern village in the Hambleden parish, tucked below wooded hills. Its outstanding landmark is St Bartholomew's Church, whose massive Norman west tower has an unusual double-gabled roof. The church, pub and cottages form a remarkably concentrated historic scene.
The wider landscape is integral to the experience, with public walking routes linking Fingest to Turville and Hambleden. Roads and parking are constrained, so arriving as part of a planned walk can be both more enjoyable and more considerate. The village has no need to behave like an attraction merely because television discovered it.
