Peter Capaldi is an actor, writer and director known as Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It and the Twelfth Doctor in Doctor Who. He also won an Academy Award for directing the short film Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life.
Capaldi combined acting with writing and directing from early in his career. The Thick of It made Malcolm Tucker an influential television character, while Doctor Who gave him one of Britain's most recognisable science-fiction roles. His Oscar-winning short film is evidence of a creative career that reaches well beyond acting alone.
