A brewery has opened among the ruins of supposedly cursed Causton Abbey, turning local folklore into part of its brand. The venture's launch is shattered when Adam Asoba is killed in a brewing vat and Fleur Perkins discovers that the victim had officially died three years earlier under another name.
Adam's staged death and the insurance claim explain why he was living under an assumed identity, but a second murder shows that the brewery has another secret to protect. Barnaby and Winter move between the business partners, the abbey's history and residents who are happy to let a ghost take the blame.
