Magna Manor is transformed into revolutionary France for a new version of The Scarlet Pimpernel. Director Nick Cheyney is killed by the production's working guillotine, placing actors, crew and investors inside a crime scene already full of false identities.
Barnaby learns that professional criminal George Ince is operating nearby and that the elaborate shoot can conceal more than one operation. The theatrical murder and a planned robbery overlap, but understanding who is acting in which scheme is the key to separating them.
