Chenies Manor
Chenies Manor is a Grade I-listed Tudor house beside the village church, set among gardens in the Chiltern Hills. The manor’s history reaches back around 800 years: part of the surviving house is associated with the Cheyne family, while much of the present building dates from the Tudor period. Today, visitors can explore historic rooms and gardens when the house is open. Its mellow brickwork, enclosed garden setting and mix of domestic and formal spaces make it especially adaptable on screen. The best-known Midsomer role is Malham Manor, headquarters of the Oblong Foundation in The Oblong Murders; it has also appeared as a museum and several fictional homes.
A visit to Chenies can take in the quiet village setting as well as the house itself, with the parish church and manor close together. The same architecture can suggest a private family home, a country estate or a place with an institutional past, depending on how a scene is framed. The visitor information below gives the current season and opening details.
