Stoke Court
Stoke Court is a historic house in Stoke Poges, within a landscape of country estates and parkland. Occupation of the site goes back to 1455; in 1845 the house was enlarged and renamed Stoke Court. It is Grade II listed. The house was rebuilt within its shell after a 1979 fire, so the current exterior combines a long history with later restoration. The estate is not an ordinary public attraction; visitors should check access before planning a stop. On screen, its grounds and formal frontage suit several different institutions. The best-known Midsomer role is Causton Grammar School in Top of the Class; it also appears as a technology headquarters and a private home.
The grounds help the house shift convincingly from school to workplace to family residence, while the surrounding Stoke Poges landscape gives the setting a distinctly estate-like feel. The parish has other heritage stops, including the churchyard associated with Thomas Gray’s Elegy. Visitor information below explains what can be checked before you go.
