Eccentric landowner Sir Freddy Butler gathers his current and former wives for dinner and dies soon after making an announcement. Bullard finds natural causes, but Freddy's missing will becomes urgent when his solicitor is deliberately killed in a fire.
Barnaby and Jones work through the extended Butler family, conflicting expectations and rumours of hidden treasure. Illegitimate children and documents matter because the estate can pass very differently depending on which version of the family survives.
