The research ledger
What is complete—and what is still being checked.
Every released episode has a case page. This ledger separates a page existing from a dossier being complete, and gives each research field an honest count.
Series-by-series audit
All 25 released series
Counts describe episode files, not individual people, deaths or buildings. A single case may contain several records in the underlying index.

A completed status can record a verified method, the documented no-murder exception in Habeas Corpus, an exact filming identity, or an explicitly published location gap. Four episodes remain without a named exact site because the current reference does not identify one.
Definition of done
Eight fields make a full dossier.
The Expanded column reflects an archive flag, not an independent audit that all eight fields are complete. Credit coverage means a record is present; it does not verify every date. New viewing essays are tracked separately, and open source gaps remain visible.
- 01Original episode overview
- 02Writer, director and full first-transmission date
- 03Detective, partner and pathologist
- 04Selected independently checked guest cast
- 05Verified production notes or trivia
- 06Murder-method and death-ledger connections
- 07Wider filming areas and exact screen-use matches
- 08Inline source trail and rights-cleared imagery
Publication rules
The editorial standard
Original summaries
Episode descriptions and commentary are written for the Casebook. Publisher, broadcaster and database wording is not reproduced.
Credits before commentary
Series position, writer, director and transmission details are treated as factual credits and checked before interpretive notes are added.
Two levels of location evidence
A wider filming area is kept separate from an exact building-to-screen identity. Exact matches state what the site portrayed and whether the evidence remains incomplete.
Spoilers stay sealed
Premises and production notes remain visible. Culprits, motives and decisive evidence belong behind an explicit spoiler control.
Rights-cleared photographs
The site uses original artwork, owned photographs or images with a verified reusable licence. Programme stills and IMDb photographs are not copied.
Uncertainty is published
Source gaps and disputed exact sites are marked explicitly instead of being silently guessed. A case without a murder is recorded as such rather than forced into a method category.
Evidence order
Where facts should come from.
- On-screen and end-credit information
- Official broadcaster, producer and distributor material
- Official venue, parish, museum and tour information
- Published episode chronologies and established location references
- IMDb and similar databases as research leads only, followed by independent verification
IMDb may suggest a credit, piece of trivia or filming lead, but it is not copied as site content. The Casebook checks the claim, rewrites it independently and links the supporting source where practical.
