The Village Murder Casebook seeks permission to use a limited selection of approved Midsomer Murders publicity images alongside original editorial reference material.
The publication
A public fan-and-travel reference.
The Casebook covers all 144 released feature-length cases through Series 25, with episode dossiers, principal-character records, 99 fictional settings and 26 mapped filming places. It directs UK viewers to ITVX and keeps plot solutions behind deliberate spoiler controls.
The site is independently edited and operated by Does Your Duck Quack. It is not affiliated with ITV, Bentley Productions or All3Media International.
Proposed first phase
Four clearly bounded uses.
A small pilot would establish the correct presentation and approval process before any broader request.
Homepage
One current programme or ensemble image introducing the official television series.
Principal characters
Approved portraits for the two Barnabys and their principal investigating partners.
Landmark case files
A small initial group of approximately ten to twelve approved episode stills, each used only on its relevant editorial case page.
Current production
Approved Series 26 publicity material when supplied and cleared for this use.
Editorial safeguards
Control stays with the licence.
Written approval first
No official asset would be published until its permitted use and required credit have been confirmed in writing.
Approved files only
The Casebook would use supplied or specifically identified publicity assets, not screen captures or images collected from third-party sites.
Respectful presentation
Images would not be retouched or composited. Only proportionate responsive resizing and an agreed crop would be used.
Exact attribution
Every asset would carry the copyright and photographer credit supplied by the rights holder, with any requested link.
No implied endorsement
The existing independent and unofficial notice would remain prominent. Permission to use an image would not be described as sponsorship or approval of the site.
Prompt removal
A properly identified asset would be removed or amended promptly if the rights holder withdrew it or identified a licence problem.
Points to agree
A useful permission would identify:
- the approved assets and pages on which each may appear;
- territory, duration and whether archived pages may remain after expiry;
- whether responsive cropping and resizing are permitted;
- the exact copyright, photographer and source credit;
- whether website use only is intended, with social use excluded unless separately granted;
- any approval, reporting or renewal process; and
- a contact for corrections, withdrawals and replacement files.
