Rik Mayall was a defining figure in British alternative comedy. He co-created and starred in The Young Ones and Bottom, and played memorable roles in The New Statesman, Blackadder and Drop Dead Fred.

Mayall helped shape Britain's alternative-comedy movement through The Young Ones and his partnership with Adrian Edmondson. Bottom, The New Statesman and Blackadder each used his extravagant comic energy in a different way. The Creeper gave that unmistakable persona a place in a village mystery shortly before his death in 2014.
